It was brought to my attention today that there are new guidelines in the Municipality of Anchorage in regards to septic systems,and system testing. I have attached the link to the Municipality memorandum. From what I understand here, all testing of older septic tanks is going to include some excavation. And for the most part if you have an older system it will be required to be replaced. There are thousands of septic systems in the Municipality, and this will have far reaching financial consequences for many families. A complete septic replacement can cost anywhere from $8000 up to $40,000 for a more complex system. I was surprised to hear about this new policy, as most of the systems I deal with are out in the MatSu Valley, outside of the Municipality jurisdiction.  Also surprised that there is not an uproar over this! Honestly a great time to be in the dirt work business I guess. Here is the Link to the Municipality Policy:
